“Colours of Our Community” by photographer Markham Lane is a ten-year retrospective of works celebrating the diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Intersex community in Sydney, Australia, from 2006-2016.
Kicking off with an exclusive Launch event on Tuesday 21st February 2017 at 6pm, “Colours of Our Community” aims to preserve our visual stories with individual portraits, lifestyle artworks and photo-journalistic coverage of historic LGBTQI-news, current affairs and community events.
Held at the Ovolo Hotel, Woolloomooloo Wharf, the Launch event will showcase the Public collection as well as a one-night-only showing of the artists’ Personal collection. Art collectors, community dignitaries, friends and supporters are invited to purchase tickets to attend the Launch night and bid for Auction items, with 20% of all sales above reserve benefiting SGLMG / Mardi Gras Arts. Purchased items and regular donations can also be bequeathed to the Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives.
The FREE Public exhibition will continue daily, 8am to 11pm from Wednesday 22nd February through to Sunday 5th March 2017.
