Parramatta: Something Last Summer | MGFF17

April 1 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm UTC+11

Something Like Summer (Screens with A Song for Your Mixtape) | Sat 1 Apr 6.00pm, Riverside Theatres, Cnr Market & Church St, TIX: bit.ly/2hLv74j

If you liked G.B.F., Struck by Lightning, or Geography Club, then you’re going to love our world premiere screening of Something Like Summer.

Adapted from Jay Bell’s successful young adult novel, Something Like Summer follows student Ben (Grant Davis), who bravely comes out at school. While he tolerates some taunting, Ben draws the line at pursuing his passion for singing, despite the coaxing of his BFF, Allison (Ajiona Alexus).

Ben is crushing on (and borderline stalking) a handsome fellow student, Tim (Davi Santos, Power Rangers) and is bowled over when the popular jock – who has a girlfriend – reciprocates. Like Ben, Tim has a creative side that he doesn’t let the world see, dabbling in painting. Their secret romance heats up until things almost bubble over and Tim, scared of being outed, ends the relationship.

Years later the two are reunited. Tim is finally out and proud but Ben is living happily with Jace (Ben Baur), his seemingly perfect boyfriend. Something’s gotta give and it does.
Featuring original and classic songs performed by Davis and paintings by the film’s production designer, Kyle Joseph Johnson, the film is beautifully made. Something Like Summer is something special.
